Is Edible Gold and Edible Silver Expensive?
Not only is gold and silver leaf safe and harmless to the body, but it’s also inexpensive. A single gold leaf is approx 57p for 50 x 50mm and 79p for 80 x 80 mm. A single silver leaf is approx 19p (in a 25 loose leaf book) and can be added from the first welcome cocktail to last decorated dessert for that fining dining experience.

What is Edible Gold?
Edible Gold, E175 is a natural metal food additive commonly known as Gold, it has been approved by European Union (EU) for human consumption. It is tasteless and feather light. Edible gold can be purchased in 4 forms, gold leaf, gold petals, gold flakes and gold dust.
What is Edible Silver?
Edible Silver E174 is a natural metal food additive commonly known as silver, it has been approved by European Union (EU) for human consumption. It is tasteless and feather light and cheaper alternative to edible gold. Edible silver can be purchased in 4 forms, silver leaf, silver petals, silver flakes and silver dust.
Is Edible Gold safe to consume?
Yes, it has been approved by European Union (EU) for human consumption otherwise known as E175, refer to our Health & Safety Information. Edible gold does not contain harmful by products. Edible Gold will pass out of the body about 24 hours unchanged without causing any harm or reaction on the body. It can be consumed by all religious groups, vegans and vegetarians.

How can I use Edible gold & Silver?
Edible gold and silver can be used to garnish any dish. It is typically used to decorate chocolate, cakes, desserts and canapés. It can be added to curries, or any savoury dishes just before serving. Recently it is has been popular in champagne vodka and cocktails to dazzle your guests on arrival. The use is unlimited and can bring elegance and sophistication to your fine dining needs at a reasonable cost.
Will gold ever go dull?
No gold will always retain the lustre and dazzle providing it is kept cool and dry will have a shelf life of several years.
Will Silver ever go dull?
Silver will keep it colour providing it is kept cool and dry, however for the best result decorate with silver just before serving, as the moisture of the food will change it's appearance normally after 12 hours.
Do I need an edible adhesive?
Not normally as most foodstuff are moist and the leaf with adhere to any moist surface, however if the surface is dry, it can be dampened with a clean cloth or brush, but ensure the surface if not too wet.
What is the difference between loose and transfer?
Loose leaf is leaf placed loosely between the sheets of the book. The leaf cannot be handled and is normally lifted directly from the book with a special brush, tip or tweezers (see tools) and then placed onto the surface.
Transfer leaf is leaf placed on a sheet of wax paper within the book which is larger than the leaf, therefore each sheet can be removed individually. It can then be placed face down and with slight pressure the metal will be released onto the surface, rather like a child’s transfer. It is usually easier to use transfer leaf then loose.
What is difference between leaf, petals, flakes and dust?
You can now buy gold/silver leaf in different sizes, Leaf is a whole sheet which measure approx 80 x 80 mm. Petals measure approx 5-8mm and are supplied in a jar/box with tweezers for easy use. Flakes measure approx 2-4mm again supplied in a jar/box with tweezers for easy use. Dust is less than 1mm and supplied in a shaker box/jar and can be sprinkled directly on the food/drink.
How do we handle the gold and silver?
Gold or Silver leaf cannot be handle, it will stick to the warmth of your hand, we supply brushes, tips and tweezers. please refer “What is the difference between loose or transfer” to ensure you use the best leaf for your requirements. Petals, flakes are supplied with tweezers and can be placed directly onto the surface. Dust is supplied in a shaker jar/box and can be sprinkled directly onto food or beverages.

Edible Gold Leaf Booklets are whole sheets which are available in 2 sizes, 80 x 80 mm and usually used if covering large areas (i.e. poultry, wedding cakes) and 50 x 50 mm for smaller areas. Edible Silver Leaf is only available in 80 x 80 mm sheets. Booklets are available in Loose or Transfer, for more information see FAQ. Leaf cannot be handled,as it would stick to the warmth of you hand. It must be used with a special brush, tip or tweezers (see tools).
Edible Gold & Silver Petals are random shapes measuring approx 8-10mm and are supplied in a jar/box with tweezers for easy use. Petals again cannot be handled and must be placed onto the surface with tweezers (supplied) or brush.
Edible Gold & Silver Flakes are random shapes measuring approx 2-4mm again supplied in a jar/box with tweezers for easy use. Flakes again cannot be handled and must be placed onto the surface with tweezers (supplied) or brush.
Edible Gold & Silver Dust are random shapes measuring less than 1mm and supplied in a shaker box/jar. This is the most easiest to use as it can be sprinkled directly on any food or beverage..
Edible Gold and Silver are natural metals and therefore not suitable for microwave use.
